In this series, found images of film actors and directors in discussion form the starting point for a series of large paintings begun in 2009. Mostly from films made in the 1960s and 70s, the original photographs record the shared moment of imagination and communication between the two figures. The paintings made from these (oil on canvas, 2009-11) were photographed and produced as a series of prints the same size as the paintings, showing a negative image only. The works explore interpretation and translation, from the discussion portrayed and the original moment of photographing, through the painting process, to a second, contemporary moment of photographic capture.
