AThis ongoing series of large drawings is made in ink on paper. Each drawing develops over an extended period of between 6 months to 3 years and begins with a simple geometry, such as a diagonal line, curved line or square. Because the lines are drawn by hand and repeated sequentially, each line being an attempted ‘copy’ of its predecessor, they wobble and bend, qualities which increase as the work develops, forming large ripples and waves as the drawing evolves. Earlier drawings were made specifically to be photographed and then displaced (see ’In Negative’) whereas the drawings represented in this section are presented in their initial form. These drawings have led to the more recent series of smaller works SDL 1-14, 2017-20 which expand the exploration of the diagonal in relation to the grid.
